Hey all, I just recieved a Canon 35/2 in the mail. As I was testing it out (excersing the aperture and focus rings), however, the lens body, focusing ring, and aperture ring suddenly disengaged... the focusing ring seems stuck, and it seems to be turning the lens body/casing. The aperture ring is stuck on the filter ring and wont change aperture. The lens is pretty much in two... "halves". The first half consisting of the body/casing/mount stuck on the focusing ring, the second is the aperture ring stuck on the filter ring bit. Does anyone know how to fix this, or anyone, preferably in Toronto, who would fix it?

Can you photograph it for us, especially what the bottom portion that docks with the camera? I have a 35/2 but I've never opened it, though I have fixed quite a few other Canon lenses. Sometimes it's the retaining rings or screws in the back. Is it missing any that you can see? My guess is that it might be a loose retaining ring accessible from the back...?

Something came undone. Either a retaining ring loosened up or a screw or two is out of position. Probably an easy fix. If you feel adventurous, you may want to try to disassemble the lens yourself. Most Canon rangefinder lenses are very logically constructed and easy to take part and reassemble. Of course it may be easier to return the lens or find a repair tech to do the work.

Ahh shucks, I have no digital camera on me next to my M8, which doesn't take very nice close up shots... but I'll try with my cell phone. I'm looking to bring it to a shop tomorrow. I have disassembled a Canon 50/1.8 serenar and a 35/2.8 before (just to clean and re lube) but never one of these. Looks to be constructed similarly though... I'll try and post some photos tomorrow when the light is a bit better... not much you can tell from it though
