I just realized that the number of aperture blades in the 35mm 2.8 lens changed between versions.

The early chrome version of the lens has 6 blades while the later black version had 10. Interesting at the 50mm 1.8 went down in blade count over time. I wonder why the change happened with the 35mm?

Other little differences I noted while looking at the lenses -

Wide open, I can still see the edges of the aperture blades of the later version while the blades of the earlier version are out of view.

The front element of the earlier version seemed larger, though that could just be in my head due to the differences in shape of the lens.

I'm assuming they perform more or less identically?

Yup! Checked out my chrome version -6 blades. Surely do like this lens! Can't say how the older version compares to the more resent one as I only have the first version. Red

Hi Brian, Your spot on. I have made an error in my book where I have the number of blades for the black lenses at 6.

So those who have my book pencil in the number "10" aperture blades for the 35mm f/2.8 T5 and T6 lenses. Sorry. Peter

Ah, good to know, thanks for the confirmation.

I don't have a copy of your book but I have been using your website as the definitive resource on Canon LTM lenses. Excellent info - thank you for keeping it up.
