A Canon 35mm f/1.5 just sold on eBay for $587 with a M adapter.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250703251646&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT

I don't understand why someone would pay such an ammount for this lens when Mr. Gandy will sell you a brand new CV 35mm Nocton f/1.4 M lens for $579.

Am I missing something here? I expected the lens to go for $300 but was amazed that it brought $587. Allowing for a $50 value of the m adapter, $537 still seems like a huge sum for this lens.

In my mind a new Nocton 35mm f/1.4 (either MC or single coated) would out perform the 60's vintage lens by a large margin.

Am I missing something here? I guess this makes the Nocton an even better value (yes I want one!!).

Collector interest- it is a fairly uncommon lens. The Nokton is a great lens with a modern rendering of images, but if you are looking for a more vintage look, the Canon is a decent option.

My personal favorite modern lens is the CV 35/1.7, in LTM.

Hi... I won it¡¡¡
and I cant see the m adapter...and finally is a matter of taste, something what you are looking for...-the vintage cost??? maybe??
I know today you can find a better performer cheaper: but the vintage and oldie original has a value...I guess...
Best.
Bob.

Congrats, Bob. It's actually a very sharp lens stopped down a bit.

And for the OP, it's the fastest 35 available in LTM.

Regards..
Bob.

Congrats on the lens Bob! I guess the term 'vintage' has value. Are you using it on a screwmount body or an M body?

Also, don't sell the Canon 50 1.2 I did that and ended up getting another one 10 years later at a significantly higher price.

My bad on the M adapter - I misread the ad and thought one was included but he was saying that you could use one to use the lens on an M body.

It would be interesting to test againist a single coated Nocton.

I have a 35mm f/1.8 Nikkor for my SP so getting a 35mm f/1.4 for my M4-P requires me to sell the 35mm CV Pancake M that I have. Ah decisions! And I still need a faster 90mm.

"In Bed With Nyssa"

(1967 Canon f1.5/35 on Leica M8 @ f1.5)

It does the trick with my style of work ~ I personally don't care for the new Nokton f1.4/35's signature, it just wasn't my thing ~ But, truly I was in the market for a
REALLY FAST Nokton f1.2/35 when a like new Canon f1.5/35 came along............and I don't regret it, I really don't even use 35's with real film on my IIIC K's
it's all just "FAST" 50's, but the Canon f1.5/35 WORKS GREAT on the M8 as seen in the photo sample above, it's just a perfect combo 🙂

Congrats Bob on the buy, you will love this lens!

I just paid a little over $500 for mine very recently and I'm quite happy with my new purchase. I must have a really good one, mine is sharp as a razor at F1.5 (preferred aperture for me) although of course the depth of focus is thin as a sheet of paper in close-up mode.

It's a cult lens. I just sold my original box and rear cap in the classifieds.

W-Nikkor * C 1:1,8 f=3,5cm in M-mount!!!

Have you seen the above thread? I think Mister E is looking to sell his, so you could go for an M-mount 35mm f/1.8 Nikkor too😉

I like the Canon 35mm f/1.5 LTM too. I think for what it can do, the price of the lens at under US$600 is under valued.

Cheers,

If what it can do includes getting pretty girls to pose for you like in Tom's shot, it is under valued for sure! 😛

I love my L-Hexanon 35/2.0, but that Canon 35/1.5 really is something! Looking forward to seeing more shots of that Bob!

And, I agree on not selling the 50/1.2, they are getting harder to find and prices will go up more. You'll pay more than you'll get now, if ever getting another one!

There are not many examples of this lens around.
Anything under $600 is a very good price.
Kevin's camera had one with "slight fungus" for $900 and now it is gone.

Here's Mine on M5.

Here's Mine on M5.

Nicely balanced and proportioned.

This lens is to the 35mm F1.4 Summilux, what the 50mm F1.2 is to the original F1.2 Noctilux. At least one-half to one-third the total cost. That's alot of utility for not too much money.

I paid for mine in $480 in very good conditions which I thought expensive. I have already the canon 35/2, just would like to see the different of two - I like the colour of 1.5 rather than the 2.0

The 35 Canon is also not known to have an issue with focus shift like the 35 Noktons do.

I have been looking for the Canon 35 1.5 for a few years now. Every time one comes up for sale, I'm broke or have just relieved my GAS by purchasing something else right before.

Collectability of such lenses adds to the market value. I have a nice 35mm 1.5 that I like to use for a non-modern look.

Still waiting...
