BTW-- I just bought a 35 /2.8 off Ritz collectibles for $229 perfect w/ caps. Do you use a shade w/ yours?

Welcome to the club! Yes, my lens came with Canon's Series VI hood which works on one of their 50s as well as the 35mm 2.8. I use Series VI filters-easier to find than 34mm and they fit in the 34mm Series VI adapter behind the hood.

Can I break the "thread rules" (Photos only) by asking if you use a hood w/ this lens? If so, which one? (oops, I guess I just did break the rules)

The black f2.8 35mm uses the 40mm screw thread. Waltz made a hood/filter set. A 40.5 or 43mm to 40mm adapter ring is a good idea.

This thread caused me uncontrollable GAS. After finally selling my wonderful Canon 35mm/2.8 lens just recently, I today placed an order for another one. The one I sold was very clean optically, and I got some nice images with it. I bought one from KEH, and I need to wait and see what they send me. If it is anything like the lens I sold,I will be happy.

Hi Raid,
I wanted this lens myself and I hope I'm not raining on your parade with this post but felt I should alert you to something. You see, I recently purchased a Canon 35/2.8 from KEH but had to return it. Not only was it missing the front cap (although advertised as having the "caps," along with the case & finder) but more importantly it had a lens separation problem. The separation was evident when looking into the lens under good lighting and looking along the edge of the lens aligned with where the word "Japan" is located on the front. I sincerely hope that they didn't just turn around and sell you the same lens I returned (and I don't mean to disparage KEH by this post but I was very disappointed that they didn't catch this problem before selling it to me). And, as I said, I'm really sorry Raid if I'm causing you any unnecessary concern but felt it important enough to let you know about my experience so you can make sure to not end up with the same problematic lens. I do hope the lens you bought is a different one that is in great shape. Good luck to you.
