I use a canon W-50 hood with the Canon 35mm F1.5, it takes Series VII filters. Kodak Wrattens fit tightly in the hood, as do Canon original Series filters. I also have some off-brand series, which will fit, but can "chatter" inside the hood. Better to stick with the Kodak Wrattens and Canon brand series filters. Or try them in the store, to make sure they fit properly. These filters do not vignette with the 35mm F1.5 Canon.
I also have a 34mm screw-in dedicated Canon 100mm f3.5 hood, which takes Series VI filters. My 100 F2 lens takes the Canon 60-T-2 Hood, which takes Series VIII filters (again I prefer the Kodak Wratten variety).
Canon also made stackable, screw-together color-coded storage units in Series VI, VII, and VII. I have all three, and it keeps the series filters nicely organized, and easily accessible. Series filters make a lot of sense, especially if you like to use alot of different varieties, as I do.

Wow!
Frankly the CV 35/1.4 is pretty controverisal itself. I catch hell every time I've recommended it and have seen a number of threads where people can't get to work, or it's making crazy bokeh.
Mine is MC, and seems pretty good-- but when you look close the edges often don't focus with the center, or maybe they are soft, e.g.

The 35/2.5 is sharper by a fair bit, I've read, esp from f/5.6 down.
but it makes great dog shots:
