Hi,

Any suggestions for Canon 35mm F2 RF lens hood. I recently came across thios lens with caps, however, there was no hood. What size hood does it take and where to buy the one?

Regards Irafn

i've been using mine w/o hood, and have no issues. It does flare some, but i think it is part of the character of this lens 🙂

I know that is no help to your question, but i just thought i'd share. Sorry lol

The Heavystar 40mm hood vignettes with the 35mm/2 and 35mm/1.8. See my example photo below taken with this hood. The Canon 35mm lens was probably designed to be used without hood. There never was a dedicated hood for it.

The Heavystar 40mm hood is actually a combination of a common 40,5mm "Leica" hood and a 40-40,5mm step up ring. This hood works very nicely with the Canon 50mm/1.8 and as an added bonus you can use common 40,5mm filters.

Heavystar also sells a version with a 43mm step up ring. This is the version currently on ebay. I purchased it last week and used it with the canon 35mm 1.8, and found no vignetting, even with a 40mm screw in filter on the lens. The larger step up ring prevents vignetting. Since the hood and step up ring are two pieces, you can use the common 43mm filter size instead of the hard to find 40mm filters.

I use a vintage Walz vented hood on mine, Made for Canon. Hard to find, but with patience can be done. No vignetting, it is a native 40mm theread mount hood. I have it screwed on over a Walz Filter.

Thanks for the information Ellisson. I need to get the 43mm version.

Peter-
I have heard a number of times the idea that there was no canon hood because of the recessed front element; however, as soon as you attach a filter you no longer have a recessed front element (the filter). Did Canon assume filters would never be used with this lens? What were they thinking??

I used the opening of my UC Hexanon hood as a guide for my 35 f/2 Canon hood. The UC Hexanon hood is as wide as the Heavystar 46mm vented, angled hood, so I ordered that hood with a 40-46mm step up ring. Used filters just fine, took care of flare, protected the lens.
Then sold it....
