If you have a Canon 7 with the 1.2 50mm lens, have you found that when fitting a filter it touches the len's surface ?
In anticipation of a 7 with a 1.2 50 lens arriving next week I came across this 'warning' in a forum which recommended two Makes of filter that won't (perhaps Hoya and B&W) and seek advice accordingly here.

I’ve heard that some filters will make contact with the lens surface. I use both Tiffen and B + W filters on my 50/1.2 and have had no problems. But I also don’t tighten the filters all the way. Just enough so they won’t fall off.

Hoya and B+W fit on mine. You can test by putting a drop of liquid on the center of the lens. Roland.

Maybe the F-Pros are better because the rear retaining ring acts as an extra spacer, but I found old B+Ws to be a problem in the past. And even in the standard mounts, there was enough variability that some filters would hang up the Hexar AF and others wouldn't.

Look for the designated Canon Slim filter (old chrome flat front filter) and you won't have a problem, but take the filter off when storing for a long time or the lens coating may develop a discoloured center spot from haze or fungus starting to build.

While I had my copy, I learned about this problem some time after putting on a Hoya filter on the lens. Then I found a Canon filter (a silver thing) whose front element is flush at the front with the edges of the frame, and was specially designed for this lens. Problem solved.

Needless to say, when I finally sold the lens, the lucky buyer got the filter with it. But they're not difficult to find in the auction site.
