I have both, I find the f1.8 lens to be much superior to the f1.9
The f1.8 was a real achievement for Canon in the early 1950s and holds its own even today.

As mentioned, the 1.8, either Serenar or Canon branded, is superior to the 1.9. It's a later formula, and Canon learned a great deal about lens making in a relatively short time.
As I mentioned in another topic, I prefer the chrome to the later black finish. I like the extra heft of the chrome lens, and the formula is the same in all versions.
I have paired up a Leica III with the 1.9, and it made a nice compact pocket camera, with the collapsible lens. I did it to upset Leica owners, seeing their brand with such glass in front.....
