Just ordered a 50 f1.8 chrome Canon lens and I would
like for anyone familiar w/this lens to give some feed back
and maybe post some photos from this lens. I plan to
use it on an M3.

It's an excellent lens.

Here is a recent thread.

Thanks Chris,
I think I remember that thread and I was wondering if it was the same as the black and silver 1.8 optically.

Chris you just answered my question. That
is exactly the one I ordered (chrome). Hopefully
I can get some images as good as yours 😉and to
get a different look from the 50 summicron that I
have been using

Congrats on your purchase! I'm waiting for mine chrome one in the mail too!

I've always been a sucker for these vintage looking chrome finishes. And they all feel very solidly built due to their weight.

Do share some pictures when you get yours!

Cheers,

I'm fortunate enough to own 1 Serenar chrome, 3 Canon chrome and 1 Canon black lenses. They are all excellent performers.

According to Peter Kitchingman's new book on Canon lenses, they are all the same formula and coating. The black lenses are quite a bit lighter, but many prefer the heavier chrome mount. Serenar was the first name given to the Canon lenses, but all are 1st quality, regardless of age. The coating is hard, unlike the early Leica lenses. Small cleaning marks (a euphemism for scratches) on the front element has basically no effect on images.

The lens looks good and handles well on an M3, or any of the several Canon RF models. The Canon P is frequently touted as a poor man's Leica M, and is a beautifully made camera, with a full opening back and variable VF as bonuses.

If you get involved with the lenses, the book mentioned is a solid investment in any future purchases, and top quality in content and execution. Spoken as a very satisfied owner, with no other interest financially in the book. There is a good thread in this forum on the book.

Dan on '66 -- Thank you!

Re: the OP's follow-up question regarding a hood: I've generally used one on mine (either generic or original) although I'm not convinced it's really necessary. The lens seems pretty flare-resistent

Canon 50 f1.8 chrome

Just got a visit from the postman w/my Canon
50 1.8 lens. Just as I was told, KEH seems to rate
their gear conservative. Lens looks good and clean.
Just waiting for the postman to visit again w/my ltm
adapter. Will post something as soon as i get everything
togather.
