Just picked up a 50 1.8 off the 'bay. Described as optics 8/10. I have to give the seller credit, since I couldn't find anything wrong with it. One of the first test shots here:

Congratulations! I suspect that like many of us you'll really come to like this lens. It remains, to my eyes, one of the best all-around lenses that Canon has ever made. Your image gives just a hint of what you'll find yourself shooting with it.

Enjoy!

The Canon 50mm 1.8 LTM has to be one of the best buys in photography. That was the first screwmount lens I bought after I got a 111C. And the chrome lens is really built like a tank. It take great pics.

Congratulations! Not only is this a great lens optically (as your shot indicates), it's fairly compact and makes a great 50 for travel.

If you haven't seen it already, check out Dante Stella's write-up on this lens at his website (www.dantestella.com), in his article on canon lenses for leica. You'll feel even better about your purchase after reading it!

Great lens, especially for high contrast. Use it a lot in the summer and outside.
Mine lives on the IIIC (occ. move to the R-D1). Recent CLA by Sherry.

Great lens, akward filter size.

I'm looking for a 50 1.8 Canon. Bought one from an RFF'er several weeks ago, but he took the money and ran. So, I'm in the market again. <sigh> Great lens.

This is really a bad event on RFF. Is there a place to post the names of sellers who took the money and ran away with it?

Sitemistic, it might prevent other people from getting ripped off if you would disclose the name of the "Seller". On e-bay the canon 50 1.8 LTM comes up frequently. There is a Canon subsection for Rangefinders. The coatings on this lens is hard. So it is less likely to be scratched than Leica lens of the same era. You might want to check out Ritzcam, Keh, PacificRim, Igor's Camera Exchange, and KevinCameras.

Wow, that's really sad to hear.
I've always felt pretty safe buying/selling here. I agree, it would be nice to know the name of the seller.

Agreed. But I found a 40 to 40.5 mm step up ring from "heavystar"(ebay) that wasn't too expensive--8 or 9 USD--and use my 40.5 filters and hood with mine. And, luckily enough, the original Canon front cap fits over the step ring.

A great lens. There is only one small drawback to it and that is finding 40mm filters. :bang:
