Does anyone here have real world experience with the special Canon 50mm f/1.5 lens hood on the 50/1.5 lens?

I did test shots with my newly purchased 50/1.5 using both the round and rectangular 50/1.8 Canon hoods, and saw no corner or edge clips, at either f/1.5 or f/16.

Looking at the hoods on the lens, I can see why the official 50/1.5 uses a Series VII filter, so that the hood proper doesn't get "in the way". But since I don't like round hoods on the 50mm lenses (they take a corner out of the finder), I'm not super eager to spend big bucks on this hood unless it seems important. Plus, the rectangular hood provides better shade. (But will I lose half a stop of speed?)

(Of course, collector-itis may drive me to it anyway.)

I am a man with a cheap rubber collapsible hood on a collapsible Summicron. If you got one that works, stick with it and spend the extra $ on something else you "need."

What Rover said: you have a hood that works, anything else is unnecessary. I, on the other hand, have bought hoods anticipating the purchase of the lens in the next several years.

I am watching a hood on ebay right now. I haven't seen the proper lens for it in months, but the hood I may win!!!! ;)
