Hi Ted, yes it is.

Film is the other way
this is a fascinating thread.. who knew a company like Canon would have so many disparities in their lens line up? Very informative.

I have a few Canon 50mm f1.8s
- The earliest chrome version for Canon RF system
- The last black and chrome version for rnagefinders (I think it is the latest version because the focussing ring looks different to the earlier scolloped focussing ring of an f1.4 black and chrome lens I also have) and
- The SLR version in FL mount
I am not sure if the SLR one has the same optical formula , but it, like the others produces wonderfully saturated and sharp images. I have recently developed a new found appreciation for moderately specced prime lenses of this era. They lack for nothing in terms of the image quality they produce. And of course in build quality.

Mine is a type 8, serial #347xxx. Though the basic design of the lens remained the same i.e. elements/groups, I wonder if the changes in coatings and manufacturing technology over the twenty some years changed the performance for better or worse?kb244 said:Looks like based on serial number mine is a Type 4.

HI,
If you have a 50mm f/1.8 lens with the serial #347xxx then I am after a pic of the front of it for my book. Contact me at peterk@canonrangefinder.com and I can send you the style of pic I require. Credit will be given.
To date I have only seen two of these lenses pop up on eBay.......unusual...you bet.
