Canon 50mm f1.2 internal haze ... possible DIY?

I cleaned mine and it was lots of oil in one of the internal glasses...I believe it improved afterwards..

I did not even have a spanner...I used tiny screw drivers carefully pushing over a cloth...

I'm going in! Just got a 1.2 from my Uncle, and have forgotten how to disassemble these to clean. I did one a couple years ago. Johan, do you have your instructions somewhere new? Dead link.

No problem. I used a spanner and got the first and second groups in the rear out. There is bad haze between the elements in that inner unit. It's very tight, I cannot separate it with the spanner. I'll just wait a while, and decide if I should try again or send it to a repairman. I already have a 1.2, so don't need to spend a lot of money on this one, a gift.

I'll be eagerly waiting to see a tutorial on this. I just checked my 50/1.2 and a slight haze has reappeared after sending the lens for an overhaul a year or so ago (to remove the same haze.)

Yes you can do it yourself. Google for "Disassembly Canon 50mm f1.2" There is a very good page out there describing exactly how to disassemble and clean this lens. It is quite straightforward. It does require a lens spanner but you may be able to extemporize with a pair of circlip pliers, a metal workers compass (ground and adapted as required) or similar (or just buy a pair on ebay - they are cheap) If you cannot find the relevant page, private message me providing your email and I will email you the page to you as a HTML file - I have it saved offline on my PC for ready reference but the primary internet site my copy was downloaded from seems to be down. The author of the page is named Johan Niels Kuiper so try including that in any search.

No experiance with this lens.
But, when you clean the haze do you clean & relube helicoid?
Modern Greases dont break down like they used to.
Does this not solve the problem?
I use Helimax XP. (Available on Ebay I think)

I followed these instructions online to clean some haze from my Canon 50mm 1.2 and having an issue.

It seems that my aperture dial wont move anymore, it is stuck wide open and wont allow me to close it?

I have a feeling that the whole internal assembly isnt moving back and fourth because when I put the lens back together the focus isnt work either.

Any suggestions, besides sending this into someone who knows what they are doing. haha.

Take it apart again.
Make sure the aperture and focus are moving.
If the f1.2 is like the f1.8, the aperture is coupled to the dial by a short arm, make sure the arm fits into the slot.

dxq.canada is right, likely did not get the arm fit into the slot.
