Canon 50mm F1.5 Filter Size

What would be the filter size of this lens ?

I am confused the 50mm f1.8 is 40mm .
How can the F1.5 be this size too ?

now i'm confused...what would stop it from being the same size?

some of the canon 35mm lenses are 40mm also.

it's not uncommon for camera companies to have a number of their lenses use the same size for filters.

canon was 40
leica was 39
minolta was 40.5

Joe is right, 40mm just like the 50/1.8 both black and chrome, 35/2, 35/1.8 too. They liked 40mm filter threads.

the 50/1.5 uses a 40mm filter as Joe said, but the proper lens hood for this lens uses series 7 filters, not the smaller series 6, as used on the Canon hood for the 50/1.8
Canon went with a larger dia. hood to avoid vignetting on the 50/1.5

the s-50 hood is for a 48mm sized lens, like the 50/1.4

there is a 40mm screw on hood for the Canon 50/1.5 also

I use a Walz "Vented" hood for mine.

The Tiffen Series VI #603 adapter fits the 40mm threaded lenses. It is unmarked for filter size, or that it is for Canon lenses. Just the blasted #603. Like a #611 is for a Summarit. Got these memorized? Series VI hoods are pretty easy to find. As are VI->VII step-ups.
