Canon 50/1.8 wide open. One of the later models. Adam sleeping on my couch.
See my complaints about the lab in one of the other threads. I'll be rescanning these.
Shows that the lens is good, though.

A correction to Harry's post. The 50/1.5 is the one that is smaller than the 50/1.8. But heavier.
The 50/1.5 has a distinctive Sonnar look. Soft corners wide open.
The 50/1.8 is definitely the sharper lens, especially in the corner.
The 50/1.8 is a lot easier to find.

I would like to see some photos from your test, Brian. It sounds very interesting so far.

In preference to an incredibly flare-prone Summarit, I used a 50/1.8 Serenar for 17 years, always with the hood made for it. Optical performance gave no cause for complaint at any aperture. Sharp and neither soft nor too contrasty. Pretty much neutral with colour. There was some pitting and rusting on the barrel -- but then the barrel doesn't take pictures, does it?
