I'm kind of excited about this - Canon 50mm f1.8 Type III from 1961. The best part about this lens is that it is only 188 grams, while containing optical properties similar to a 50mm Summicron V3. When I received it I disassembled the lens and cleaned each lens surface and lubricated the focus helicoid and the aperture ring. Optics are clear of haze, scratches, and fungus, while the other mechanisms are smooth.

This is a very good lens but you have to be extremely careful when looking for one.
The great majority of them that you see for sale have what appears to be internal haze but is actually corrosion of the coating on the element immediately behind the diaphragm. This cannot be removed and the cost of repolishing the element exceeds the value of the lens. So be extremely picky when looking for a black Canon 1.8 .

Cheers,
Dez

Sorry about that!

Was it difficult to take apart and service? (Please note the image of the lens failed to load).

Very simple to take apart, but just remember the sequence of how you disassembled it.

I was actually concerned with this as well. Luckily the coating did not undergo corrosion and cleaned it nice. I can't wait to develop my latest roll and see the results.
