canon 7 accesory coupler/shoe

something im breaking my head with since i purchased my canon 7 last week is why did canon decide to not put a hotshoe mount on the canon 7. i mean i just purchased this lens:

and it comes with the accesory viewer that i cannot use because i dont have the hotshoe. 🙁
unless i buy this,

which will just burn a hole in my pocket.
my question is. where can i buy that accesory for cheaper? or is there another one?

There is a frame for 85mm in the viewfinder. In fact you don't need the external finder. I think this is the reason why there is no accessory shoe at Canon 7 - there are frames in the viewfinder almost for every focal distance

Hi,

Most of the focal lengths were covered by the small serrated dial above the rear finder. It covered the 35mm to 135mm lenses but when it came to using the wide angle lenses less than 35mm then was a problem. In my brochure named "All-New Canon 7" dated 6/1961 they mention "When using Ultra-wide-angle 25mm or 28mm lens, a special viewfinder for each lens should be used in combination with the Canon Accessory Couple". Hence the rariety of these couplers and the price they fetch. A cheaper alternative is the small flash accessory that is called a Flash Unit Coupler II and was used on the Demi cameras. This fits on side of the Model 7 and will hold a flash or finder be it off centre. Peter
