I have a Canon 7 body enroute to me and have started looking for lens to match to it. I stumbled across a pentax screwmount to Leica screw mount adapter and thought this might be away to open up the lens selection. Will these adapters work on Canon rangefinders?

Thanks,
Ken

If you mean a Pentax M42 (or K) to fit onto a Leica Thread, it will work with most of the Canon Rangefinders.

The problem is you will not get the rangefinder coupling that lets you focus via the viewfinder. You'll have to guess the distance and set it on the lens and just use the viewfinder for framing.

Course most people use those adapters for very wide lens as the guess focusing is not impacted as much, and you can probably get a very wide lens for cheaper than you could get the LTM variation. I just sold a FD->LTM adapter for about 60$, wouldn't surprise me if a K or M42 ran roughly the same due to the reason above.

Thanks for the heads up!

I pretty much figured as much. I did pick up a M42 to LSM just in case I decide to play around with one of the myrid of M42 mounts. Besides the obvious Canon made lens, are there other makes that will couple with the range finder system?

Ken

Almost every lens made for 39mm Leica Thread mount will properly couple with a Canon 7 RF.

Leica/Leitz; Modern Voigtlander lenses; Nikon LTM lenses (made mostly in the 1950s); Schacht; many others over the past 70 years.
