Hi,

Bought a Canon 7 w. 50 1.8 from the Great Gamble in the Sky.

Didn't really get around to trying it out on a timely basis.

Now I see:

1) both horiz and vert displacement of RF patch (I know this should be an easy DIY w. patience)

2) a very long throw shutter button (shutter releases well bellow usual release point -- tried other Canon 7 to check)

I've shot a roll that's about to go to development to check for other issues.

Question 1) In the meantime -- your thoughts on whether it's better:

1) to sell as is w. full disclosure to a good caring home, or
2) spring for a CLA.

Criteria focused mostly on cost and likely outcome.

Thanks.

What did you pay for it?

A Canon 50/1.8 in EX cosmetic condition with near mint glass is easily going for $125.

I've paid $110 (with shipping) for a Canon 7 that required repair: the film counter was jammed, and I took off the top plate for the repair. Found a "clutch" was out of place.

The Vertical and Horizontal alignment can be done with a set of fine needle nosed pliers or firm tweezers to get the Cap off the top plate for vertical alignment and a screwdriver for the cap screw for horizontal alignment, and jewelers screwdrivers for the actual adjustments. Do the vertical alignment first, and be very careful not to push down as turning.

The long throw of the shutter release- I'm sure there is an adjustment. Make sure the top plate is secure, and that the framelines adjust properly. If the frameline mechanism is not engaged to the switch on the top plate, it will not seat properly. Could also make the shutter release travel a bit longer.

So as is, with disclosure, probably $100 for the body. Fixed, probably $175~$200.

Thanks, Brian.

Lens is a whole other issue. I don't remember what I paid -- I bought it for the lens, figuring I could get a gander at the 7 and keep/sell depending, and have a decent residual cost on the lens -- so probably over 200 under 300. Didn't pick up the problem til recently.

Frame switch seems to work properly.

Do our archives have a going figure for a CLA on a Canon 7?
