Greetings,

I just acquired a Canon 7, the winding lever doesn't work and the shutter button doesn't go down.
The button with de A to R doesn't move.
Can anyone help me out please, is there something i am doing wrong or is the camera buttons stuck?

Thanks in advance.

First take the bottom plate off the camera. There is a flat piece of metal with a few screws. It is a spring. Sometimes if these cameras are jarred just loosening the two screws and slightly repositioning the spring will solve the problem. Of course, retighten the screws after repositioning. Part NO. C2281 If that fixes your camera then you can spend money having the rangefinder adjusted....if dropped it probably needs it. If that does not fix your camera...there are a few other problems that can be easily fixed....like making sure it does not have the shutter release locked.....might check that first.

Oh, I have seen one where the winding lever was forced and broke the piece of metal that locked the camera inside under the top plate......the piece of metal jammed the winding mechanism...however when located with a magnifying glass and removed everything worked fine except the shutter lock no longer worked. Best of luck.

Hopefully you have a wrench that is used to fit the two holes on the nut on the bottom plate. I forgot what that wrench is called...but it makes the process much easier. Be careful...if you try to use a small screw driver in one of the two holes and tap with a small jewelers hammer to loosen....take your time....and you will keep the camera looking nice.

Hopefully you will not have to take the top off the camera...there are a few tricks to know. Like, remember the position of the focal length selector; the contact for the selenium photo cell is a pressure contact; do not remove the screws for the high low selector at the back, not necessary; if removing the speed selector set the ASA to 400 and shutter to 1000 and remember the turns loosening the 3 set screws ...do not remove them completely [when reinstalling the speed selector remembering the number of turns for each set screw will allow centering which will prevent dragging the film speed indicator]; do not turn the geared dial used with the indicator needle; take a digital photo of the position of the scale to ensure in the correct position when putting it back together..that is reinsalling the top and...there are a few springs two at the back of the winding mechanism the position of which should be noted after removing the top and one at the front....for the slow speed mechanism...and do not mess with the frame counter if you can avoid it...if disassembled it must be reassembled with tension otherwise you will have to remove the top again so the counter works and resets properly. Oh yes, if you really are into this you do not have to remove the self timer lever to take the front and rear covers off...but you may want to tension it...so you do not have to upon reassembly. I have made some notes that I keep some place for some other watch out for information. Just take your time and do not force anything...make sure you have a good set of screwdrivers, like they have at Harr Freit that have large handles and standard and phillips size choices to break the screws hold to avoid stripping the groves.

I cannot remember at the moment but to take the wind lever off the two holed nut may be nonstandard....I cannot remember at the moment.
Enjoy the rest of the day....use tape to secure screws to a piece of paper so they do not get lost. Never think you will get a small screw reattached without dropping it....work over an area where if dropped it can easily be seen.

Is the A/R ring set to R? Does the advance lever move freely but not advance the film? When set to R, this is normal (as is not being able to depress the shutter button). Does the A/R ring not rotate to A? If the A/R ring is stuck, then something is jammed and repair is needed.

Best of luck

Thank you everyone for the fast responses. I think this is a really tricky camera to disassemble. I guess i will try and venture with it.

The button of the shutter lock doesn't work either. Even the shutter button doesn't work.

The camera doesn't have any marks that it has been dropped.

The meter doesn't work to but that i really don't mind cause i can use a phone meter or 16th rule.

I just wanted to get it going.

Lets see what i can come up with.

Again thanks and if you remember any more advice i will gladly take it.

1. what do you mean by the wind lever doesn't work? like it can't be moved, or it doesn't do anything?
2. The shutter button is locked when the shutter is not cocked, i.e. fired or partially wound.
3. The A-R collar can be jammed if the shutter button is installed incorrectly. There is a slot in the bottom of the shutter button, but the slot is deeper on one side than the other. The deeper cut aligns with the rectangular bit underneath. You can undo the collar (loosen the 3 set screws) and flip the shutter button around to see if that unjams the collar.

but yeah, there's something wrong with the camera.

1. Well it doesn't move the curtain the wind lever. i can only move it just a little bit but not enough to push the curtain.
2. Well i'm guessing that it doesn't work cause i can't push the wind lever.
3. It's on A i can't move it anywhere.
