Canon 7 Meter

As I understand it, the meter needle movement is not perfectly linear and this is compensated for by making the black/white increments facing the needle a different size than the purely linear increments facing the f stop numbers. That's why they slant like that, basically just look where they line up by the needle and visualize where that would be on the f stop numbers. You just kind of have to eyeball it. Mines dead on when checked vs my sekonic, happily. The orange numbers are for the high sensitivity setting of the meter (red dot on the round switch by the eyepiece), and the white numbers are for the low sensitivity setting (black dot). Happy shooting!

Vangabriel, hi and don't fret about the meter. It is a selenium type meter and the black and white bars serve the same purpose as on any other selenium light meter, to compensate for the lack of linear response to varying light intensities. Ranchu has already given you all of the info that you need to figure it out. Just go someplace quiet with another light meter and start comparing the readings. I am positive that everything will become clear in a few minutes. 😉

I do not have a 7, but I understand that they are a very nice camera. My L1 is a gem and the 7 is an improved, upgraded version, actually the next series, I think?
