Ok, I just got a Canon 7 ... but now that I am reading up on the Canon rangefinders, I feel that maybe the other Canons are "better" ?

For example, is the Canon 7 so huge in comparison to lets say the Canon P ?

The Canon 7 has some nice features to it ... not sure if I like the large physical size.

The Canon 7 is larger than the Canon P, but I wouldn't say it's huge by comparison. The advantage of the 7 over earlier models is the nice vf w/ switchable framelines. I wear glasses and have trouble seeing the 35 framelines on the P. Not so on the 7: the 35 framelines are easy to see and compose with. The Canon 7 is a robust camera, and if the meter still works that's a plus. The main downside for me was the lack of an accessory shoe.

Forget size, the main difference between any Canon rangefinder is the viewfinder. The viewfinder of the P and 7 are vastly different, so make sure you look through the viewfinder of a P before buying (actually this advice holds for any camera). I prefer the 7 over the P, but that's just me.

The viewfinder on a nice 7 is crisp and superb, with easy focusing.

If the P had the viewfinder of the 7, that would be a fine combination.

I have both cameras, and I find the 7 to be an ugly camera whereas the P is beautiful. As I said above, this is a personal preference.

7 for me

7 for me

I find the 7 a nice fit. The P is also a nice classic shape but I do like the 7's viewfinder better plus I have the shoe attachment so thats covered too.The P will be sold soon.

I use both two Canon 7sZ's and a P (and the VI-L and VI-T as well) - I don't own the 7 yet but I do own the shoe adapter already - and if I use my 35 mm lens I have no choice but to turn to the 7sZ's. As a wearer of glasses the P is just not an option (and the VI's aren't to a lesser degree as well).

But for 50 mm and above I turn to my P (and finders). It just looks so gorgeously 50's.. I find the 7sZ to be the better user with a much beter viewfinder (the 7sZ's is supposed to be even better than the 7 or 7s) and ofcourse it's much superior metering system.. In the end of the day it all comes down to personal preferences 😉

I may be the only person here who does not like the Canon 7.
I loved the VL before selling it. Now that camera I preferred over the P.

I had a 7sZ that I sold for some reason, it may have needed a CLA. But the viewfinder was very nice, and it felt great and handled great. I have a P now, and it's fine for a 50mm lens, but like people say, the viewfinder isn't as good. The 7 with the 3 viewfinder magnifications just seems to be a better feature. I would shoot your 7 for a year, then decide.

I have Canon IVSB and I consider it a great camera and never change it for Leica LTM. I've also played for a week with P and I also like it. the only difference for me between IVSB and P is an esthetic feeling!
