I'm not an authority on this matter but living and shooting in a very wet state has helped me to be more confident with my Canon 7 in the rain. I don't worry a whole lot about getting some rain on the body. I worry more about the lens. Having a long hood helps somewhat in this regard. Keeping everything under my overcoat until its time to shoot also has helped. When I get back home I let everything airdry before stowing in my camera bag.

I never had any trouble using mine in any kind of weather. As far as the cold is concerned, if you intend to do lots of shooting in that climate, special lubes are called for and a special CLA should be done.

I should mention that I was thinking of long term cold use in my response. Say if you were going to winter over at the pole... Otherwise, as Brain says, a properly CLA'd camera shouldn't have issues in much of anything stateside.
