I am trying to add a flash to my Canon 7. Don't have any Canon flash from that era but only a "younger" Olympus quick auto 310 from an OM2.

I connected it as below :

hot shoe and PC sync connected.. though it doesnt seem to work. The only time the flash triggers is when I connect the shoe to the Canon 7 for the first time (and when I remove it as well). Nothing else works..

I'm not familiar with the Olympus flash. What's the thing in the shoe of camera? The 7s doesn't have a hot shoe so the only way to connect a flash to the camera is through the PC connection. Try fiddling with the PC connection on the camera's end and on the flash end. Also, make sure the flash is on manual.

BTW, you have a Canon 7sZ.

Thanks Jim!
As you mention this is not a hot shoe, I disconnected the shoe connector and removed the cable, leaving the PC cord only and IT WORKED ! 🙂
So happy!!

Don't know why both cant be conencted but well... happy to have found a solution
I will experiment first with the NEX5N in order to really master the Quick auto 310 which seems to be a strong flash, and then will use it with the Canons !!

(Re the camera it is a Canon 7sz indeed, sn starting with 123xxx, viewfinder would deserve a cleaning but perfectly usable for now..)

Since the camera just has a solid metal accessory shoe instead of a hot shoe with a termiinal in it, it immediately shorted out the flash when you plugged the shoe adapter in. Stick with the PC cord.
