Canon 85mm f/2 Serenar Dimensions?

Can someone please tell me the overall length of this lens? I have the 135 f/3.5 version of the Serenar and want to add an 85mm. Just curious to compare the two.

Depends on what version you're talking about. According to Peter Kitchingman, version 1 is 88mm long, while versions 2 and 3 (more common) are 90mm long.

88-90mm is shorter than the 135 I have so that will be nice.

It´s also 700 grs....pure chromed brass...way too heavy!

"Heavy, beautiful lens" (Antique & Classic Cameras) describes all the big brass 85 Serenars. My 85 1.9 is my heaviest and certainly most beautiful ltm lens, but I use the tiny 100 3.5 more often (ESP on APS C as a feather-light 150).

I had one and loved how it looked. It was very...................dense. Solid. I did not use it much and sold it even though I would love to have kept it. The thing I did not much like about it was its loooooooooooooooooooooong throw - focusing was accurate but slow to hit the mark. More than anything perhaps this is why I sold it. If you wanted something lighter you might consider buying a Canon 100mm f3.5 which is sharp as anything and small.

I'm going to keep an eye out for the 85 1.5 version and move to this one some day. For now, the 85 2 will go on the M3.
