Ok, can anyone tell me if my 85mm canon f1.5 will mount on a leica m3? I'm worried about the lens release collar on the m3...itis a close fit on my m4-p. Any one know?

A7r very picky with glass. i sent mine back and switched for plain A7 which is much nicer with many RF lenses and even SLR lenses.
Not like the M9 with wides, but fun anyway.

BAD News: The collar/guard DOES touch the lens on my M3- Canon 85mm combo😡 The lens will not mount flush- the guard will need to be modified- ground down slightly. Is it easy to remove to do the modification?

You can clearly see here that both the lens release button and the collar/guard have been modified/filed down on this M3....the 85mm f 1.5 won't fit otherwise:

Yes, very easy. Just unscrew the screw in the centre of the release button, and the screw, release button, and collar should come right off.

Found replacement parts that are already modified to fit - both the button and the collar are trimmed back on the lens side to clear larger lenses- I wonder if this was a factory change on later bodies??? Should be a matter of swapping out the parts😉
