I have a feeling that I already know the answer to this but just in case, here goes: I have a Canon AF35ML with a loose battery door, a fairly common problem with a lot of Canon cameras, I think. So far my best solution has been a piece of strong tape, which is not very elegant. Does anyone know of a better solution?

This is old plastic, when it becomes brittle there is no way back. Had similar issues with an Nikon L35AF. Tape is the only solution then. I don't know if people 3D print those parts.

Live hinges only live so long. Only solutions are tape, or replacement with an equally old part.

I suspected as much. Tough.

I had a Canon SLR that had a bum latch for the batter door. I made an aluminum plate that fit to the bottom using the tripod socket to attach it. I tapped another socket in the bottom of the plate for mounting on a tripod. It worked well, but probably a bit overkill for the AF35ML.

I'm beginning to hate cameras with batteries. Mind you that would exclude a lot of cameras, including all digital ones. I have more than one Canon T50 that havewith faulty doors. One has a back door that won't open unless you unscrew the hinge cover. I suppose it needs cleaning or lubrication. I hear the T90 is much nicer.

Depends. It is a great camera but has other age related issues (sticky shutter due to deteriorating plastic bumper). Most of them require some sort of service.
