I received a nice Canon AF35ML with tele/wide auxiliary lenses today. All is working fine, but I´m planning to cut off the lowlight warning beep. Did anyone of you locate the beepers place in the ML´s body. I thought of cutting the energy cable to make the camera less noisy. The other sounds, like shutter or transport are not so annoying as this beep. Thanks!

how about first taping hole[-s] over "speaker" if there is any ?

btw Pentax PC35AF also makes annoying sound when light is lower than bright, making it no so stealth.

and...I'd post this into P&S Camera forum, would get more responses.

To cut off the beep in low light situations first open the top of the AF35ML. On the right you see a little circular device under a plastic foil. A light brown cable is soldered to this device. I cut a little hole into the foil and cut off the light brown cable from the solder. The beep is set off now.

BTW in the Pentax PC35AF it works in a similar way!

Last sentence means you castrated PC35AF too? With winder attached it has better grip, but winds as loud as probably AF35ML does.

Will watch your web for some shots with aux lenses and opinion on fun using them.

Some tests before setting off the beep:

The silent-made PC35AF works well too.

Petronius, having a chance, I'll ask about AF indicator on PC35AF - do on yours it matches symbols? I've noticed that on mine it moves slightly further than symbol is, although focusing precision is OK. I have noticed same with other cameras having slider-type AF indicators.

When moving slowly towards a subject the slider shows two or three positions between the symbols when focussing repeatedly. I thought this was normal behaviour, because the photos are sharp.

A test shot from the AF35ML under low light conditions to show the lenses performance wide open. I add two 100%-crops. 200 ASA-film, handheld.

It took me a couple weeks to get around to it, but I just finished "de-beeping" my AF35ML using petronious' instructions. It's certainly a very quick and easy mod, just a couple minutes with a small screwdriver and an X-Acto knife. And someone with a mind to could easily re-solder the wire later.

I do most of my shooting with this camera in lower light, since it goes up to 1600 ISO. Silence is definitely an improvement. :) My camera's flash won't fire anyway (just whines and clicks, probably a bad capacitor) so the low-light beep was not only very annoying but also completely useless.

Incidentally, the audible battery check function on my camera still works even without the beeper wired in. It now makes a rapid clicking noise that's still easy to hear. The self-timer, however, now makes no sound at all. I never use the timer and I could just count to 10 if I did, so that doesn't much matter to me.

Thanks for the link! The same way as I did, but I removed the whole brass beeper. The platic part that holds the screw on the right is broken in my camera, so I had to tape the right side of the top plate to hold it firmly in place.

40/1.9 highspeed lens saved me a lot. i am only using 400 asa film. asa goes up to 400. there is a 800-version but 1600, never heard. my 400-version goes from 25 to 400. how about your 800 or 1600-version? that could imply 25-400 or 50-800 or 100-1600 depending nd-filter used in front of the cell.
to my knowledge 800 version should have a nd-filter infront of the lightmetercell which is one stop(0.3 log) lighter. that is at least the technique used in nimslo where i changed 100 to 200 asa. any comment?

i have three of them. in one i used lithium-batteries, but only once.... it killed the flash. cannot use it anymore. it now loads and unloads. never use lithium-batteries.
light-leaks
the seals must be replaced. seal-dirt is also seen on some images. this is most probably the best supplier: www.kameradoktor.de
he must get a camera to cut the seals. i will send him mine, most probably in april.

All I found is the information that the later models of the AF35ML had an extra click for the 1000 ASA (maybe to work properly with the then new Kodak Ektar 1000?)

My (crude) method for messy seals: I dont replace the seals but tape all the sticky parts with gaffer tape.
