Canon AF35ML beep

I have just cleared out my mother's apartment. She died last May. Among her rubble we found a Canon AF35ML with a flat battery. She hadnt used it for several years. I did not know that it had such a fast lens, - or was remarkable in any way. So we just threw it away. Along with a lot of other rubble.
 
I've been a fan of the AF35M for a long time (mine works perfectly, amazingly enough). The 38 2.8 is slower but the camera doesn't beep! 🙂 You're giving me gas for the AF35ML model, though.
 
The lens of the AF35M is said to be better than the AF35ML´s. But its definitely fun to use a P&S with such a huge glass. The weight and the handgrip give a good feeling too. The low light focusing ability of the AF35ML is sometimes a pain!

Oh! what a waste. The 35ML and 35M are probably the best AF P&S ever made. Fines lenses and accurate enough focusing (with the M one must prefocus in order to get spot on focus). These are definitely much better cameras than many made years after they have been discontinued.

I really like the camera and look forward to shooting it again. Well, not percisely the same camera, but the same model.

After being impressed with the original Canon Sure Shot, AF35M, I decided to get the Super Sure Shot, AF35ML. I picked one up on Ebay. Shortly after it arrived, I found one in a thrift store, but since I had one, I left if for someone else to enjoy. A few days later, while reading on the net, I realized that there had been a later model that went up to ISO 1000. My AF35ML from Ebay is a ISO 400 model. Hope against hope, I scampered over to the store and the camera was still there. I pulled it off the shelf and there it was; ISO 1000 a plain as day. The camera quickly found its way into my collection along with its ealier twin.

This is the one I plan on shoot once I finish the 6 rolls that I have started in various cameras. Instead of the ISO starting at 25, it starts at 50 with click stops up to 400 and then a small turn without clicks to 1000.

i have the minolta af-c too but without flash. something seems to be wrong with focus. maybe must ge t a new one.
af35ml. checking my latest images, it seems i must train focus. some images have focus on the wrong plane. above all when doing shapshots, but also for stills. one should be very aware where to aim the focus point and hold-move the camera to the right composition.
with its wonderful 40/1.9 it has certainly a better position than new sigma dp2 with its 41/2.8. shooting at 800 would be necessary for available light. the results i have seen at photokina 06 was very promising.
if i had the 1000-model(one site was telling about a 800-version)i would use agfa avicolor n800(surveilance film bu8t identical to the aerial 70mm and bigger).
i am sure they used 1000 as an argument for the then only 1000 asa film from kodak in the early 80ties. nothing else above 400 was available. maybe konica 3200.
btw: i once missed a supershot because i left my finger from the trigger. this story can be viewed in dpreview. i am banned from there forever..... due to excessive advertising. good lie for my permanent criticizing bad quality products. if we do not hit them in the stomach from time to time we will never see what we need. some companies seem to have listened.

The Minolta AF-C is another of my favorites as well. It fits nicely in the hand is a true point and shoot. The focus worked fine on mine and the flash did a good job as well. http://www.flickr.com/photos/camerabear/tags/afc/ Point and shoots are my favorite type of camera right now. I don't have to worry about getting out either a rangefinder or slr kit and carting it along with me. Just pick up one of my P&S cameras and out the door.

I have around 3 or 4 MLs and really enjoy them. I also have one that goes up to 1000. I also found a Canon rectangular lens hood with built in filter which I have on one of them which doesn't block out the AF system. I found it quite by accident on Ebay under lens acessories. Here's a little secret I found when the internal contacts get dirty and they stop working.

I found one in my garage office in a box with other nonworking P&S AF cameras. It hadn't worked in years. I took a aresol can of contact cleaner which dries very quickly once it's sprayed and squirted some around the rotary off/on switch on the back of the camera, moved the switch around several times, sprayed a tiny bit around the shutter button, and a bit around the rewind switch on the bottom and some in the battery compartment. I moved all the switches around several times, put in two batteries and it came alive and focused very quickly. Now, I give each one a tune-up around once a year with contact spray and they're all working really great.

I often carry one of my MLs with me as I travel into Ukraine and Russia. Very sharp lenses, as good or better I'd say then my Canonet 28, which has a very sharp lens. I leave for Siberia next Tuesday and when I return I'll will remove the top of one of my older ones but still working fine, and silence the available light beeper. Thanks for that helpful procedure, and enjoy your Canon ML! I may take one with me into Siberia as well.

I do most of my shooting with this camera in lower light, since it goes up to 1600 ISO. Silence is definitely an improvement. 🙂 My camera's flash won't fire anyway (just whines and clicks, probably a bad capacitor) so the low-light beep was not only very annoying but also completely useless.

Incidentally, the audible battery check function on my camera still works even without the beeper wired in. It now makes a rapid clicking noise that's still easy to hear. The self-timer, however, now makes no sound at all. I never use the timer and I could just count to 10 if I did, so that doesn't much matter to me.

dont ever try-out Lithium batteries, use enelopps instead. Lithium will kill flash! I dont think it can be repaired. capacitor will be killed. will be charged and discharged immediately.
