wray,
Congratulations on the AF35ML. This is one of my favorite cameras from the point and shoot crowd. It is a common mistake that the Canonet QL19 and the AF35ML used the same lens. This is not the case. All of the Canonet QL19s used a lens that is a 45mm f/1.9 (5 elements in 4 groups). The AF35ML has a slightly wider lens that is a 40mm f/1.9 (5 elements in 5 groups). Close, but not the same. I don't know the official reasoning for this choice, but my guess is that they went with a 40mm lens on the AF35ML because a) 40mm is closer to the 38mm snap shot "standard" and b) 40mm allows for a slightly lower lens profile and "slightly" smaller camera; 60mm vs. 55mm front to back.
Whatever the reasons, I think that this is a great camera and is better than most people think. A real hidden gem among the point and shoots.
