Canon F1 question(s)

The downside to the Canon FD line (compared to Nikon) is fewer lens selection and IMHO, except for a few, the lenses are not as good.

That's why I bought a Canon to Nikon adapter so I can use my Nikon lenses on my F1!

Which adapter do you use? I bought one off of eBay and it's very cheaply made.

Yes but the shutter speed dial turns opposite to Leica.

I've shot both the old and new F-1, having owned the latter for a couple years before selling it (and I kind of regret it to be honest). My father bought the original F-1 new and still owns it to this day (though the DOF preview broke off years ago) though unfortunately it sits in the bag and never gets shot anymore. Started shooting Leicas and the new F-1 sat on the shelf for months. It's by far the best SLR I've ever shot with, film or digital. They are INCREDIBLY well built. Yes, I'm going to say it, the New F-1s rival the build of my M3. The precision of these cameras is incredible.

I like to complicate things by using Nikkor LTM lenses, so the focus turns Canon/Leica-wise, while the aperture turns Nikon-wise. :bang:

I switched from Nikon FtN to Canon F1 when they were new because the Canon was better built (more precise, less rattle-prone) and it would do perfectly registered multiple exposures, That latter trick was important because I did a lot of title slides at the time.

F1 is not for wimps.

They are INCREDIBLY well built. Yes, I'm going to say it, the New F-1s rival the build of my M3. The precision of these cameras is incredible.

I know Leicas, the F1s (old and new) and Nikons. From that era nothing beats the Nikon F3 imho. Film advance alone on the F3 feels like a league or two above in sheer power.

Concerning glass, I´d vote Leica #1, Canon and Nikon head to head on #2. The good thing about Nikon is, manual F mount lenses will work on current full frame digital too.

I still a have a couple of new f1s and they are very nice cameras and compared to Nikon f, f2 and f3 (which I still have) in my opinion feel much better made. Not sure about the original Canon f1 never had one. The fd lenses are great bargains as well.
