Canon F1N

Yes...

Though the degree depends on which model you mean:

There is both an "F-1N" and "New F-1" and confusingly they are not the same camera. The F1-N is older, and has an all mechanical shutter and will do everything but meter without batteries.

The New F-1 has an combination shutter that will work mechanically without batteries at 1/125th or above, or "X" at 1/90th, the rest of the slower speeds are electronically controlled and therefore inoperative, and of course the meter still won't work without a battery.

Brad--if you have the latest F1N--you'll NOT want to run it without batteries. I am almost sure it was designed to run only in absolute emergency mode without the battery. My experience only, though, YMMV and all that stuff--BTW--the F1N is a great camera!

Sure you can run an F-1N without batteries. The shutter is a hybrid electro/mechanical design with all speeds from 1/90 - 1/2000 (and B) being mechanical and will work with no battery being in the camera (but, of course, your meter won’t work either).

The F1N has a hybrid shutter that needs batteries for the slow speeds (I think), and it works without batteres (with stiffer shutter release button) for the rest of the speeds. Usually, only when the battery dies, remove the battery and then half the speeds will work.

Add a motor drive or winder, and the F1N has shutter priority.
Add the AE finder, and the F1N has aperture priority.
The standard FN finder when set to A gives you shutter priority without any read out.
