nice one gm13. I was wondering if anyone would post a F1N ("New F1")!
I used to have 2 of those bodies, one with the power winder, not the motor drive (a lot more compact! (but only 2fps)). Great cameras, great system. Sorta regret selling them, but I'd switched pretty much all my 35mm work to a contax G system, (now Leica M), and months would go by without using them.
Finally sold them after not using them in over a year. Definitely one of my favorite SLR's though!

The F1N has the coolest motor drive sound. Instead of the "click whir" sound of the Nikon motors, the new F1N drive has an impulse sound, a quick "bzzzt, bzzzt." Sweet.

Okay, gotta clear up a few things here.
The original F-1 (the first one I owned, and the first camera I paid for with my own cash), is the one shown in Brian Sweeny's entry, with the Leica-style film-wind lever (with serrated edge). The F-1n (plastic-tipped film-wind lever) is represented in the OP's (HuubL) kick-off entry...I had one of those, too. The New F-1 (with "hybrid" electro-mechanical shutter, among other things), is shown in Gm13's entry. ALL the F-1s were exemplary cameras, IMO, and looked good in a purposeful way. The New F-1, in fact, might have epitomized the "precision" 35mm SLR, right up there with the Nikon F3, in terms of both mechanics and electronics.
The A-series? Didn't like them much. Had an A-1 for a whole year, which I (regrettably) ditched my EF for. They were serviceable, but felt disembodied compared to the F-1, EF, or FTbn. But that's just me.
Looking at HuubL's F-1n: how can you call that thing ugly?

Yep, all great cameras, but you'd think they could've come up with a little different name for all those F-1's. It's not that you can't tell them apart when you see them, but when you read both F-1n and F-1N, and have to remember that the big N means "New F-1"... well...yeah.
And the F-1's are definitely NOT ugly.

even though it's only a so-so body, I think the AE-1 Program is the nicest looking of the FD bodies... I just hate shutter speed priority *only*... otherwise I would probably shoot mine more. Got is for free, then got a free F-something for free... I let my kids shoot them.

Brian: Look at the all the EOS-1 variations (film and digital). At the very least, you can't fault Canon for consistency.

hate to say it, but Nikons and Olympus of the same vintage are way prettier... cost more today though...

Well, I'll admit to two things about Canon SLR's.
1) The Canon 50/1.4 SC (and SSC) has the edge on the Nikkor-S 50/1.4.
2) I like the Canon EF better than the Nikkormat EL.
But the naming convention for the F1, F1, and F1n is confusing.

I have to say that the original Canon F1 is one of the nicest looking cameras ever made. I had one for a few years and loved it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This holds especially for cameras. I've never liked the looks of the Nikon F cameras (apart from the classic F1 with that sharp triangular prism). Canon's have always been my favorites for looks. I must say I find Olympus OM1 and 2 cameras beautiful too, while in my opinion the OM3 and 4 are much less sexy.

I got to make a new portrait one of these days with the winder attached and the AE finder.

I used to own such a set-up, along with a battery pack taking 8 batteries or more
