I don't doubt that FD gear is good, but I've not really used it. I happen to have a couple AE-1 bodies, two 50/1.8, 50/1.2, 28/2, 135/2.8, and a 300/4. The bodies work, but I have so many other camera systems I haven't tried them out yet (with film). The lenses look like great lenses and I'm awful curious about the 50/1.2 and the 28/2, but I've only tried the 50/1.2 on my m43 camera a couple times. Not the full and true experience, I know that. It really wasn't successful at all because I don't have an adapter that works with the nFD mount.

So how do folks use the FD lenses in these modern times? Aside from loading up one of the AE-1 bodies with film, I don't have any alternatives...but there must be some.

More specifically, would it be worth pursuing a way to use these FD lenses? Which method would be best? I have Nikon (D)SLR, Olympus OM, micro4/3, and Leica M systems as my primary 135 gear. (I have other 135 systems too, but they're more of a collection and all film stuff, no digital).

My brother regularly borrows my FD glass to use with his Sony A7R. If you're interested i can find out which adapter he uses, but I know it's nothing fancy. Another friend from time to time will use FD glass with his Micro 4/3 gear. Again, I'm not sure what adapter he's using, but it isn't fancy or expensive either.

I have two 50mm 1.4, the FD (breechlock) and the FDn. The FDn is always attached to my Canon New F-1 while the FD is on my Fuji X-Pro1. It is not sharper than my fujinon XF 35mm 1.4, but I love the way it renders things:

Canon had the shortest register distance among the mainstream mounts, plus a breech lock system that added to adapter depth. Not even Alpa (5mm shorter register than Canon) provided enough clearance for an adapter. IIRC Olympus Pen F is the only still film camera for which a Canon FL/FD adapter capable of infinity was made - if you see other adapters (I've come across FL to LTM and M42) these will be macro bellows only. But there are plenty of adapters for Sony and Fuji mirrorless digital systems.

Such nice example images here. The squirrel is one of the better squirrel images I've seen. Honest.

I have a FD/FL to LTM adapter (Canon adapter B). I can use it in combination with my LTM to m43 adapter to use FD lenses on my Olympus EP-2, but it won't work with FDn lenses. Of course, my most interesting lenses are FDn.

Is it possible to mount FD/FDn lenses on an M240? That could provide me full frame as the lenses were intended. I don't have a Sony A7, or I suppose that would be an avenue to pursue...

Is the FDn 50/1.2 any good? My fastest lenses otherwise are f/1.4, and I've been curious about even faster lenses. I like to play with the shallow DOF, as you're supposed to do with a fast lens.

Its a totally completely different lens, but the LTM Canon 50/1.2 has seemed interesting. It seems to be known for haze, but I wonder if I won't find one eventually that's in decent shape.
