Canon FL lenses on LTM RF's

I have used Canon FD lenses with the Adapter B on Leica camera bodies. When adding another adapter (Leica Screwmount to M mount), I can use the lenses also on M mount Leica cameras or the Bessa T, say. I have used the Canon 7.5mm fisheye lens and also the Canon 17mm/4 lens. As mentioned above, with such wide angle lenses, there is no need for rangefinder coupling. The main advantage I can see here is the possibility to use wide angle lenses that I don't have in Leica mount.

I'm not Bill, but I do have a Canon EF! Nice camera. The Canon 50/1.4 SSC is indeed a fine lens, and "correct" for the vintage of the EF, though I do believe the later bayonet mount FD lenses, including the 50/1.4, might be better -- better coatings, mainly. (The SSC, and the other earlier FD lenses, had the breech mount, which I find rather tricky to use when I'm in a hurry. And they are heavier.)

There are a lot of people who say the SSC 50/1.4 is a great lens, and I'll agree, but I don't know if it's one of the "top ten." You can't go wrong with the 24/2.8 FD either, though again I'll say the bayonet mount version benefits from improved lens coatings. I don't know anything about the 24/2, though I'll bet it's a fine lens.

Sorry to highjack this thread, but I just wanted everyone to know that I found a very pristine, very affordable Canon FD-mount 50mm f1.4 S.S.C. lens. I used it for the first time last Friday night. Fabulous! Simply wonderful! Love it! Amazing performance at or very nearly wide open. I can't believe I waited so long to get one.

Thanks again for the good words that pointed me to this lens. A person really does need a handful of 50mm lenses. 😀

Sure it will. Would be much more convenient to buy any of the FD camera bodies to use the lens though.

Here is a Canon FL mount 35mm f2.5 mounted on my IVSB Canon rangefinder. I think it looks pretty damn cool. Although its not rangefinder coupled when set to smaller apertures, the depth of field of a 35mm lenses allows accurate scale focussing.

i think it looks huge for a f2.5 lens. 😱

You need Canon Adapter B. It shows up on ebay once in a while. It allows you to use FL/FD lenses on LTM without RF coupling. It can save you lots of money if you want wide angle LTM lenses. Canon FL/FD lenses are first class, and they are inexpensive now. I bought them when they were costly.

I'll have to keep an eye out for the adapter since I have the 19, 28, and 35mm FL lens as well as the 50mm.

The Canon Lens Mount Converter B always fetches a healthy price, and I'm surprised that our industrious Chinese friends haven't started selling modern copies. They don't look like they'd be particularly difficult to make, compared to some of the other lens adapters. Not enough demand, I suppose.
