Will the Bulbs #5 or Press 25 be best for this flash as far as duration , used with the Canon IIF I was told the 5 with the longer duration would be better , based on the type of shutter that the IIF has .

What are your thoughts .

5 and 25 are the same thing, just a matter of who made them. In either case, you will be limited to lower shutter speeds.

The bulbs for focal plane are 6 or 26. Preferrably B suffix if you're shooting in color. Well, those will require an adapter on a Flash X, which is Edison base. The focal plane Edison (Medium Screw) base bulb is the 31, which are now rare and expensive.

Your best deal, and really the most flexible flashbulb out there, is the M3 and M3B. Pack almost as much punch as a 2/25 press, slightly longer peak, great little bulb. You just need yet another adapter...

Thanks John , I'm have no experience with the bulb stuff, I'll see if I can find an adapter for the M3 bulb . I may ask you more ? later if that's OK .

Have a look at eBay item 110290884248. That's what you want. Price is not outrageously high.

Unless your X flash holder is setup for D cells or penlites, you'll also need the rather pricey 22 volt battery, and you probably need to replace the leaky electrolytic capacitor.

(Your first flash will cost more than a used Vivitar 283. But it's much more fun.)

Thanks John , I purchased one of these and also got one at my local shop for $5, have purchased a gross of M3 -M3B bulbs as well as #6-26 some 5's and 25's look forward to having some historical fun . I'll post some shots as I get them, may be a couple of weeks . thanks again for your help and the link.
