Canon G-III 17/ Olympus SP

All the more reason to acquire the Oly RC.

The Oly 35RC certainly is an odd duck. It is suppose to be an entry level 35mm rangefinder, yet it has the shutter speed dial, along with shutter speed and aperture indicator needles built into its viewfinder. The 5 element E. Zuiko is better corrected than the front cell focusing Tessar type lenses from which it was derived from as well.

With regards to shutter speed rings, that's a hold over from the days when leaf-shutters were built by Compur and Prontor as opposed to Copal and Seikosha. Many of the German made rangefinder cameras before 1955 were folders. The shutter and lens assembly retracted into the camera body for better pocketability.

I suppose it was supposed to be an entry level rig, but it is designed and built much better than most. I'd never part with mine.

Thank you all for your help. Ive decided to go with the Canonet. I have a bit of a crush on the thing, possibly embedded in my mind from seeing Pecker when I was younger. Ill pobably be coming back to you guys later on for advice on a second camera after Ive had experience using a rangefinder. Who knows, I could hate it and rue the day i laid eyes on the Canonet. So would anyone like to sell me one?

Here's one for sale!

Yeah, Pecker was a hoot. My favorite scene was the one where they were doing his mother up like a model and he looks at her and shrieks in horror at the make-up artist, "What have you done to my mother??!!" ROTFLMAO!!

Anyway.

I had just decided to sell my Canonet when I saw the thread you started. There is a bit of haze in the viewfinder though and I was going to ask my service guy to clean it up before I list it. The camera is certainly usable as it is and makes terrific pix, but the VF could be clearer. It's actually quite common.

BTW, it's one of the relatively rare black Canonets but it is the iteration just before the so-called "III". I also have the original hood, case and flash (with its case) and a Fuji lens cap.

Please advise if you're interested and I'll send or post pix.

Thanks for your interest!/ScottGee1

ScottGee,

I think I may be interested. Im on a tight budget so how much would you want for just the camera and lens cap?
