if you ask me, pretty alarming that pro photogs at the level of Knight and Kratochvil need to do publicity to Canon...
Or I am being naive again?

I guess, I'm so used to the G5 (which is at least the size of my M4-2) that the G10 seems like a pocket camera. *shrug*

I have been surprised at how fast it is to operate. Something I usually gripe about with compacts.

That's prety much how I use the gx100 when I take it out, except that I set it to record a B&W jpg with the raw file. Only problem is the very slow raw cycle - much improved on the gx200 I believe.

Glad someone else is 'still' using a G5 :)

Aye... it's the only digital I took with me for the 2 weeks in Panama. Rainforest damp, mud, sand and heat... it's a champ. I've considered replacing it with the G9, and now the G10 (we have one at the office, so I play with it plenty) ... but honestly, I don't see the real need. :)

I've got the quite-similar Canon G9. I wouldn't call it the "ultimate street camera", but it's smaller than an M6, less conspicous than a DSLR, and the images are quite decent. It's well built, but the lens assembly is plasticky and fragile. My brother submerged his in the bottom of a canoe a few days ago. He let it dry on a hot window sill for three days, and now it's fine. Of course I wouldn't recommend dunking it to start with.

For me it's my notebook camera that comes along for the ride.

(this one was hit with Noise Ninja as ISO1600 is pretty chunky)

Antonin Kratochvil from VII too...

Hey, most pro-photographers I know do have a keen interest in cameras. It's a craftsman's love of tools. Though, they don't seem to turn it into a fetish and talk about it all the time, more about the photos/subjects and what equipment can do.

I loved reading a review by Christopher Anderson's of a small Sony camera. He said that his wife owned one and he kept stealing it because it was so small and portable and he liked the over-saturation of colours. He also did an amazing series with the Holga, limiting himself to taking only one shot of a given scene (I wonder if his wife imposed that rule in the end ;))

The G10 is a neat camera. Costa Manos from Magnum likes it too, but there'll always be something better coming.

i still use a G5 on occasion too. good 11x14's. i've gone back to film 100% and was trying to unload the g5. no interest in it, so i'm keeping it.
