Canon G10 Images from "Out West"

My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon in Las Vegas. While we were there, we rented a car and drove some 1,000 miles to the Hoover Dam, Red Rock, Grand Canyon (North Rim), Antelope Canyon and Valley of Fire. It was a heck of a trip.

We found out about halfway through, that my wife's Canon 5D wouldn't focus to infinity (didn't matter what lens, aperture, etc.). She was bummed so I handed my 5D over to her and went about shooting almost exclusively with my G10. I never appreciated a camera so much as I do the G10 right now. It really held up well in the desert and made for some beautiful imagery. Sure, the pixels aren't as smooth as those from my 5D at base ISO, but I'm just glad I had the G10 to get me what I got.

I also shot about 10 rolls of film with a Contax TVS, Horizon 202 and Fuji Klasse. Those are all at Dwayne's in Parsons, KS so I'll post some of those when they get back...

I think the G12 has supposedly better low light performance but I rarely use mine in low light so I'd rather have the larger files.

My wife has a G11 and had an S95 and both are amazing. I loved the S95 but it was a bit too small for me personally.

Really nice shots here! I especially like the sunset and the guy sitting at the slot machine; makes you wonder if he is collecting a huge pile of cash, or just lost every dime.

The Gs are great performers; I am amazed with their dynamic range. Got myself a G12 half a year ago (my wife fell in love with my old S5, so I had to find another travel-light camera). Have printed A3s directly from the out of camera jpgs with great results.

Superb images, I have a G9 and then a G11 for better lowlight and swivel screen. Love em both, the G11 is better for me.

I really do love the G-series cameras. I prefer the build quality of the G10 over the G11 I had. I'm clumsy and kept catching the swivel screen on things and twisting it the wrong way. I also like the larger file size of the G10 at low ISOs. I'm no pixel-peeper so I don't know which is sharper or whateer, but the whole lot are great cameras.

I'm tempted, though, by this M4/3 craze. Mostly by the GF1/20/14 combo. I'm wondering if the increased sensor will give me better images...

Thanks so much! My wife has a G11 so I can use that if I need to, but the G10 has been holding up well for me. I had a G11 and sold it to make room for other gear, but when I went to purchase another one, I found an amazing deal on a G10 and couldn't pass it up. I never had a go with the G9, but it seems to have lots of die-hard fans out there. Must be something special about it. 🙂
