Canon G6, anyone?

Hi all

after having resisted long enough, I just bought a used G6 for the family stuff.
So far so good, but something bugs me a bit:
the lens extends in three parts.
the first longer part is very steady, but the front block has a serious wobble.
Is this normal?
I'm asking because I have zero experience with these little tings and don't know what to expect at all...😱

I have not used my G6 in quite a while. I have the batteries charging and I power it up today and take a look at what mine is doing.

What's "serious", my G5 has some wobble, more than my LX3 but I've had it since new so I never thought about it.

Are the photos coming out sharp?

by "front block" do you mean the ring closest to the camera body? Because usually that is removable in order to attach accessory lenses, and some play is normal.

If not that. Does it wobble when the camera is moved around, or only when manually manipulated?

I'm not refering to the rings that allows attaching acessories, but to the most extended part of the lens.
By "serious" I mean, enough to see the front element of the lens swinging a little bit.
very little force has to be applied, so I am concerned about the sharpness consistensy...

I juiced up the G6 and took it along with me when I was running some errands. I checked and there is a little bit of play in the lens barrels, but only if I push on it. It does not seem to wobble at all when shooting with the camera. I also watched the LCD while moving the barrel by hand. The scene shifted a little bit, but the focus remained sharp and unchanged. I have had mine from new and never had a problem. I checked a couple of other P&S zooms and they all had some play in the lens barrel. I don't think that you need to worry.

I grabbed a couple of shots at a medical plaza. Even at an "obsolete" 7.1 megapixels, the camera stills delivers great photos. To my eye, the G6 delivers great detail, but with a smoothness that belies its digital nature. This camera has a great balance between lens, sensor size and pixel count. Enjoy your G6.

I'll run a test myself to see if my camera behaves the same.
I chose it above other G's because it's the last one with a flip screen and an f/2-f/3 zoom.
and 7 Mpixels are more than enough for what I (or more precisely my wife) intend to do with it.
