Hi, Just wondering if anyone is able to help me. I got a canon ivsb and everything is functioning. However when I use the slow speeds, the shutter stays open until I release the shutter release - they act a bulb mode. I can hear the slow speed timer so that is functioning correctly. Can this be easily fixed? Thanks for your help anyway! 🙂

You'll have to get it serviced CLA by a repairman. If you don't know how I would not suggest you go for it since this camera is too valuable to damage..

If it's been awhile since the camera's been serviced, the shutter probably needs to be lubricated and adjusted. Nothing surprising as most of the screwmount Leicas and their clones need service periodically. Often, erratic low or high shutter speeds will be the first evidence of needed service.

Check out Youxin Ye as he did a great job on my IVSB earlier this year Only $180 for CLA and shutter curtain replacement, and I had the camera back in 2 weeks. If the curtains are good, his price is only $120 for CLA.

The screwmount Canons are very nice shooters, and the Barnack copies are getting harder to find these days.

Its pretty common with these cameras - more so with Canons according to my camera guy. I had the same issue with the same model Canon and the problem came back to haunt me after having it serviced. He said this was some kind of adjustment issue.

I had a similar problem back in 2008 or thereabouts. It had to do with the bar setting of the slow speed escapement. Here is a link to an old thread that might be of help.

The bar setting, yes that is what my camera guy said - only I did not understand what a bar setting is so it did not help me much.
