Actually, it looks a little smaller than it does in my mind--and I'd imagine on the 7 or the R-D1 is will feel a bit better balanced than on a P.

It balances nicely on the P with a neck strap. I think a 7 is similar in size and weight. Anyway, wrist straps are probably not a good option.

The 100/2 Canon may be big size, but it's not as heavy as the Nikkor 105/2.5 in LTM and much better balanced on a Canon P. If the speed isn't necessary the best and lightest everyday telephoto is the 100/3.5! Speed costs size!

OK, well, I got the 100/2 today! And honestly, it is much smaller than it looked in photos. It's about the size I had assumed the 85/1.8 was--so I'm perfectly satisfied there! It is big, but not nearly as heavy and unwieldy as I'd imagined. And it is not mint, but it is indeed in excellent shape, and everything works perfectly.
It's a challenge to focus on the R-D1, which I used to test it, but here are a few sample photos, just went out and snapped 'em in the yard. I'm going to screw it onto the 7 next and see how it fares on film.

Looks like you got a lens that is in good shape. Also, nice job of focusing on the RD-1- this lens is difficult to focus accurately at large apertures. The 100/2 is only about an inch longer and 2 oz heavier than the 85/1.8, so no great trade-offs there.
I should get out and shoot with mine!

Nice rooster shot. Enjoy your new glass. Interesting to hear about your experience with it, as I have been looking for an 85 myself and hadn't thought seriously about the 100 as an alternative.

The 85 f/1.9 is a good lens...
