Canon LTM canon lens hood on ebay

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
Funny, I have this same hood in very well used state. Just wondering what the 47 female thread metal cap is for? To fit the series VI ring perhaps? Is it so strange to want a cap that fits the metal hood?
I will keep on searching in my kitchen for some condiment bottle or cap...

The reverse-threaded cap is 48mm thread diameter. If you're using the threaded 48mm Series VII adapters for the 85/2.0, 85/1.9, or 135/3.5 hoods, you reverse the hood (and adapter) for storage over the lens, and then thread the reverse hood cap over the adapter. Very handy.

There is also a rarer 40mm reverse threaded cap for the 135/4.0 hood and adapter.

Even rarer (I need one) is the 34mm reverse threaded cap for the 135/3.5 hood!

There are also earlier reverse caps that are not threaded, they are like the normal lens caps but are 4mm larger. They fit over the slip-on 42mm and 50mm adpaters. For instance, the 44mm cap shows up periodically, and would be for the reversed hood on the 135/4.0.

As for the hood Joe has pointed out on eBay, it's rather intrusive into the finder on a Canon II, III, or IV body. I only use it on the 35/2.8, after swaping on a 34mm Series VI adapter. Considering that it also comes in black, I wonder if it's a later hood really meant for the V and higher models, where the viewfinder is further from the lens.

Interesting... I know about the 48mm caps, I have several of them, but only one of the 34mm. I don't have any of the 40mm. I wasn't aware of the existence of the unthreaded slip-on caps, at all. These caps are very similar to the ones used by Nikon on their early lenses. I have the set on the excellent 135/3.5 screw mount Nikon, but it is designed with a push-lock cap, rather than a threaded one.
I'd love to find the other caps I'm missing.... always something extra.
Thanks, John, for the explanation.

So, the slip on 50mm Canon adaptor will accept Series VII hoods? I happened across one and have hung onto it figuring I may need it some day. Hmmmm, the 135/3.5 takes 48mm filters I think. It may have a future with this.
