I cannot find a website which dates Canon rangefinder lenses by serial number (there are so many Leica ones).
Today I was using a Canon 50mm f1.8 Leica screw fit lens on my M8. It is a very nice lens - and has prompted me to just buy another Canon 50mm (this time the 1.4). The serial number of my 1.8 is 297052. Can anyone help be as to the year of manufacture?
Thanks
Nick

Canon has a camera museum on their site but I do not know if it lists lenses. If your lens is a screw mount a SWAG estimate would be a 50's lens. I purchased a Canon 55mm F1.2 FL converted to M mount and it is outstanding. The red hot Canon lens now is the 50mm 0.95 that is fetching upwards of $1200.

I would like to make the Canon Serenar 50mm f1.9 the hot lens, as every Canon 50mm lens minus the f1.9 , f2.8, f3.5 and the f2.2 , has had its share in the limelight on RFF.

The Canon Museum give the start of manufacture year. They were made from the '50's into the mid-60's.

I am interested to have my Canon FD lenses used on M8. Where can I get the adaptor??? BTW would the focusing be still workable? Thanks for help!

back to basics
Only lenses with rangefinder coupling can be used with rf focussing on rangefinder cameras.
Scale focussing would be possible with an adapter, but why would you? SLR lenses are large and bulky!

Actually the FD 14/2.8 could be an interesting ultra wide for the M8. As for hyperfocusing that what lots of us do all the time with the CV 12 and 15.laptoprob said:Only lenses with rangefinder coupling can be used with rf focussing on rangefinder cameras.

Why would you? Because any lens you own works better than a lens you don't own. But admittedly it will always be heavier.
Novoflex makes the adapter you need. But check that you can control the aperture.
