Canon LTM Canon Lens Service?

Does anyone know who services Canon lenses. I have a 50mm 1.2 LTM lens that has oil on the aperture blades. When I received the lens, it was crystal clear. Now I see haze. Maybe I missed the haze, but I have 20/20 vision. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can also recommend John at Focal Point. He did a CLA for my Canon 50mm f/1.2 lens. Aperature and focus rings were sticky. Turn-aound time was about 2 weeks.

While it was not a Canon lens, I just had two Komura lenses CLA/TLCed by DAG and would highly recomend him. I do not think that you could go wrong with either him or Sherry.

My experiance is only with DAG - very good work, reasonable cost (& I'm a bottom feeder 😉 ) but really, any of the big names will do good work.

And as one more option, I've heard many good things about Essex as well. www.essexcamera.com

Lastly, you could always buy a lens spanner, some lighter fluid & q-tips and do it yourself. Canon lenses tend to be very nice to work on.

DAG Don Goldberg has quoted me $85 for CLA and about $100 for full overhaul of a 50/1.2 lens.

Like the others suggest, you can't go wrong with the big names. Good luck and keep us abreast of how it turns out 🙂

What does it mean when there's oil on the aperture blades?

Usually means that the lens was exposed to high temperatures (inside a car during the summer) which caused the lubricants to melt and drain down onto the aperture blades. It often looks worse than it actually is.

IMHO oil on the blades is not the problem, but the resulting haze due to the oil getting to the glass surfaces (and it can be a long time until this happens....). Seems to be easy to clean.

I trust all my cameras and lenses to Jacob at Camera Repair Service Center. He charged about $50 each for CLA's on 28mm & 35mm lenses. $110-$130 for full camera CLA's.

Give him a call at 281-550-2222. Tell him Wayne with the old cameras sent you. He CLA'd my Pentax 6x7 last week. It looks & works like new.

ps: Jacob's turn around is usually a week.
