I read that the Canon P can focus closer than 1m. Well only for lenses that couple this closely...

Is this true? And is this the only non-Bessa LTM body that can do this?

I just put my Nikkor 50/1.4 on my P. The lens "bump" that indicates no more coupling is at 3.25 feet (39"), but the rangefinder does continue focusing closer, down to 30" (or .76 meter) where the focus coupling drops. But the lens will still focus down to 1.5 feet (18"), uncoupled.

My modified Nikkor 50/1.4 couples down to 0.7m on my P. My Canon 50/1.5 stops at 3.5 feet (lens limitation).

Is this true? And is this the only non-Bessa LTM body that can do this?

Not sure about other Canon RFs, I would guess the Canon 7 behaves similar to the P ?

Also, probably not difficult to modify my IIIg to focus closer. With other Barnack (or copies) it will be of limited value since parallax correction is missing.

Roland.

There are close-up/dual range attachments, not hard to find for the Serenar + Canon lenses, usually with nifty cases in good shape. Each is dedicated to a certain lens. For instance, the 50 1.8 attachment can get you to 22" (=twice as close as standard distance), but it won't fit the bigger barrel of the 50 1.4.
