Took the little slider out for a spin today. The sky was just beautiful, with a front approaching to really fluff up the clouds, and a bit of dryness to clear the haze.

First thing I did was shoot a panorama of the hill I live on, with the new construction as a focal point. Forgot to set the ASA, so I was shooting 400 at 100. Yeah, that's going to look pretty. At least I caught it before running the complete roll through the camera.

Then I just took off, shooting scenes as they presented themselves. Wound up at the Heritage farm, with free range chickens running about, and the old log cabin still standing. More beautiful clouds, and views of the neighboring golf course. That's when I noticed it.

I had always wondered why the first time I tested the camera, some shots were tack sharp, and others were just okay. I chalked it up to the cold temps I was shooing in that day, as the batteries would get cold and also throw off the metering system. So I figured a good warm summer day would be best to give it another try. It has five distance icons in the viewfinder, and I saw that it was always going to the same icon, no matter what distance I was from the subject. Bummer.

So I decided to just write off the day, and get a banana split.

Oh, and when I got home, just to thumb it's nose at me, the little bugger wouldn't go into mid-roll rewind when I hit the button. Had to shoot off the rest of the roll before it would auto rewind.

I'm not even going to bother getting the film developed. Hope your Labor Day weekend is going better.

I always wanted one if these, looked like an AF version of an Oly XA.

And sorry to hear about the mishap, hopefully temporary.

No, I'm sure that's why it wound up at a Goodwill store. Even the flash doesn't work. I'll keep my eye out for a good one though, as I like it better than the Oly offerings.

I bought one of these at a thrift store once. Once I inserted a battery, the camera just won't stop advancing with the motor. From the experiences here, I guess it wasn't a very reliable shooter.

The biggest problem I find with thrift store cameras, Clive, is they are sometimes pretty much abused before they wind up on the shelf. So I don't take reliability issues with these cams, as they've lead a rough life. Mine had all sorts of battery corrosion in it, so I'm surprised it worked at all. But for $2, it was fun to figure out if it was okay or not. Mine still looks nice, and is a good display model.

I guess I must've had some decent luck with my thrift store finds so far: the Canon MC is one of two cameras I've gotten (out of about a dozen) that didn't work, the other being a Minolta Hi-Matic SII with a dead meter.

Sounds like the trash can is gaining a new friend. Speaking of heritage, the NS Southern heritage unit is bound to leave Roanoke to Belews Creek pulling coal sometime tomorrow. I might head up toward Mayodan to catch it if I can confirm a time & if it's leading. The vine is a great place to photo trains.

Oh, I don't chase trains anymore, Greg. I'll take a shot if they are happening by. Hope you caught the one you're after.
