Canon Meters for V and P cameras

meter 2 4 prong SN

meter 2 4 prong SN

Hi Pete,

To help the project on a bit, I have a 4 prong Meter 2 with a SN of 2957. It would seem they changed things fairly early on. Any idea when the numbering started, and if at 1000/2000? It seems unlikely to me that they made a lot of these, but I'm open to ideas from others. If you haven't seen one earlier than the one you illustrate, then I'd be thinking numbering at 2001. I haven't seen enough of them in circulation to believe they are really common.

Thanks for the great blog. I'd love to see one on the common lens caps, with info on the sizes, the 2 type styles (?), and anything else you've compiled.

Sorry to read about the frustrations on the book. I was involved with 2, and they were relatively painless, probably just lucky.

Hi Harry,

Thanks for the serial # of your meter and have updated my BLOG to reflect that #. If they changed the teeth on the meter from THREE to FOUR at say 2300 then these would be a rare item as approx only 300 may have been produced. The reason for the change I explained in my BLOG.

I am 100% sure that after October 1951 when Canon introduced new focal lengths (1st lens 28mm f/3.5) serial numbers started at 10000.

I have just started on the accessories while I have been "Twiggling my thumbs" and haven't really looked into serial numbers that appear on Canon accessories. They may have begun them all with 1000 or 2000 but this depends on when that accessory was released. There is a period when Canon had serial numbers on accessories and then decided to drop them...but I have yet to work on that one.

I have done some work on the lens caps (researched in 2003) but at the moment I am working on the Camera accessories, lens accessories are next.

Problem with being a self publisher is I have tried to budget the costs. I have been lucky that I have a wonderful Daughter-in-Law who is an editor as well as proofreader and boy have I needed her to keep me on the straight and narrow.
