Hey all you GIII users,

Does someone know where to purchase a new leather half case for the GIII? I've seen a few images of GIIIs lately on the web, and some are snugly inserted in a nice black leather half case.

I'm still trying to get the QL-17 GIII itself.

A fair number on the 'bay seem to come with their original cases, but the vast majority are falling to pieces. I'd guess anything new would be a custom job.

The original Canonet cases usually suffer from dry-rot, as do may of the vinyl covered cases of the day. The older hard-shell plastic cases faired a little better. The older full-sized Canonets had real Leather cases, which usually hold up. But they were never made for the compact Canonets.

Same with me. I just separated both pieces to make a half case. I've only ever seen one mint case for the QL, and that was part of a private camera collection.

The hard-shell plastic cases show up from time to time on evilbay, and also in the Classifieds here. The have separate top and bottom pieces; you can use the bottom piece as a half-case (what I do w/ mine). It also keeps the back door of the camera from inadvertently opening, which can happen after foam seals have been replaced and are still new. Typical price for the hard shell cases ranges from $20 to $45. The original cases tend to look pretty beat up (as Brian Sweeney pointed out above). Of course, there's always Luigi... 🙂

I have both the plastic and the beat up vinyl cases. What I saw was this case, posted by Airds in the "Show off your Canon Rangefinder" thread. It's probably a custom, but it made me think that someone may be producing them. It does not look like Luigi's handiwork, but who knows.
