Canon P & lens other than 35,50,&100

Hi, how do you use lenses that do not match the standard frame lines for the Canon P (35, 50, and 100mm)? I see that some lenses come with a view finder but how do you focus the lens without the rangefinder coupling? Thanks, I'm a newbie rangefinder user (and these days the word "user" is appropriate!).

most other lenses do couple and focus without problems.

the p has framelines for 35/50/100

my 28/85/135 need external finders for composition only but focus fine.
